Fees and Payment:

My fee for a 50 minute counseling session is $150.  I ask for the payment at the beginning of the session. I accept cash, checks and credit cards. I will charge a $45 fee for returned checks.

I am currently in-network only for Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, and only at the Shepherdstown location.

I am not a network provider for any insurance plans at the Leesburg location.

If you are covered by health insurance, you may have “out-of-network” benefits that you can use to offset the cost of services from me. I will be happy to provide you a slip that contains all the information you need to submit a claim to your insurance for each session.

Here are some of my experiences with out-of-network benefits by insurance company in Virginia.  I am less familiar with benefits in West Virginia. Bear in mind that insurance policies are variable, not all policies will have any out-of-network coverage, and your policy may not conform to my previous experiences.

Cigna, Loudoun County Employee: Out of network benefits are strong. Typically, there is a deductible of $500, and after that is met Cigna reimburses around 70-80% of my fee.

Cigna, non-Loudoun County Employee: Variable reimbursement, but often substantial. Sometimes a deductible applies, sometimes not.

Anthem and other Blue Cross/Blue Shield Plans: Variable, but reimbursements are often about a third of my fee.

Kaiser: I used to assume that Kaiser did not offer out-of-network benefits, but I now have had clients who’s Kaiser policies do reimburse about half of my fee.
